Promoting Values and Behaviour Changes

GC Pakistan launched a Mobile School Environmental Education Programme supported by a US Ecological Charity. The aim of the mobile school is to provide the school children with first hand knowledge on waste management and tree planting.

Preventing and Resolving Conflicts over Natural Resources

GC Pakistan's Green Energy Forum contributes to the prevention of conflicts over natural resources by providing alternative economic solutions to a country's scarce energy resources. To this end, Green Cross Pakistan is proud to announce that in January 2006 it will be the first NGO in the country to present Pakistan's first vehicle running on bio-diesel fuel. This experimental demonstration was made possible thanks to the technical cooperation with two Pakistani universities: the University of Punjab and the Agricultural University of Faisalabad. The two-fold objective behind this project is (a) to convince potential investors in the energy field to think in terms of environmental and energy sustainability, and (b) to update local populations on the efforts made by the international community to reduce CO2, NOxs and SOXs in order to render the local environment cleaner.

Water campaign

Access to clean water at a community level is a priority of GC Pakistan's water campaign. As a first step, an environmental impact assessment and a feasibility study have been conducted for the Arsenic free water in the rural area of Sahiwal district.

National programs

- GC Pakistan's Sustainable water management project involving farmers in rural communities is being extended so as to include the rainwater harvesting education programme in the desert area of Cholistan. This programme is implemented in cooperation with the local government of Bahawalpur.

- GC Pakistan and Punjab Industrial Forum signed a Memorandum of Understanding to fight together against the dumping of liquid effluents of industrial waste. The aim is to preserve the ground water from contamination and control other ecological impacts in the areas concerned.

- GC Pakistan, as an expert member of Green Budget Germany introduces Eco tax reforms and relevant legislation in Pakistan. Green Consumption and Production patterns associated with Eco tax reforms is a joint project of Green Layers Group and Green Cross Pakistan.

- Sustainable Cities project aims at keeping the cities free from pollution. As a part of this program, GC Pakistan is producing organic fertilizer out of organic municipal waste by applying Effective Microorganism (EM) technology.
